50 Years of Superstar | Dan Freebairn x adidas

Like all my projects with adidas Originals, I was really excited to be working with them again. But this one felt extra special... My long time followers will know my favourite shoe is the adidas Superstar. So when adidas asked me to be the one to tell this story and use my illustrations to highlight key moments in the shoe’s 50 year history, I was truly honoured. I already knew a lot about the shoe, but I dived deeper to learn more and really immerse myself in the project. Then came the challenge of narrowing down 50 years of collaborations, anniversary colorways, introduction of new technologies, hyped releases and of course general releases. This I couldn’t do on my own. So I brought in two experts, @dave.lurky and @superstar_luke, both highly respected guys within the UK scene especially when it comes to shell toes, and both have unbelievable Superstar knowledge and collections. I wanted the final list of shoes to touch on the Superstar’s early development, changes in design, shape, manufacturing and materials. As well as highlight key collaborations, pairs only true Superstar collectors will appreciate and iconic releases known by us all. I think we got the balance just right and I’m really happy with the final outcome. I can truthfully say I’ve never put this much effort, detail and thought into a single poster before.
